Biography
Geraldine McEwan (born Geraldine McKeown) was an English actress. She was born on 9 May 1932 in Old Windsor, Berkshire, and died on 30 January 2015 in Hammersmith, London. She began her career in the theatre at the age of 14 at the Theatre Royal in Windsor and was appearing in London's West End by the age of 18. She worked with the Shakespeare Memorial Theatre and joined the Royal Shakespeare Company in 1961, later becoming a member of the Royal National Theatre.
McEwan's film roles included Mortianna in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991), Sister Bridget in The Magdalene Sisters (2002), Alice in Henry V (1989) and Holofernia in Love's Labour's Lost (2000). On television she played Miss Marple in the series Agatha Christie's Marple from 2004, Miss Thripp (voice) in the Wallace & Gromit films The Curse of the Were-Rabbit (2005) and A Matter of Loaf and Death (2008), and Cassandra in Red Dwarf (1988). She won a BAFTA TV Award for Best Actress for her performance in Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit (1990) and received two Evening Standard Awards for Best Actress.
