Biography
Giancarlo Basili is an Italian production designer and scenographer. He trained at the Istituto Statale d'Arte U. Preziotti in Fermo and the Accademia delle Belle Arti di Bologna, and began working in theatre at the Teatro comunale di Bologna from 1972. He later collaborated with Pier Luigi Pizzi and held positions including technical-scenographic director at the Teatro Festival di Parma and director of stage sets at the Teatro comunale di Bologna.
Basili has designed sets for numerous Italian films, including Palombella rossa (1989), Nirvana (1997), The Son's Room (2001), I'm Not Scared (2003), The Caiman (2006), Certified Copy (2010), Piazza Fontana: The Italian Conspiracy (2012) and Hammamet (2020). He also worked on the television series My Brilliant Friend (2018–2024). He has received several Ciak d'Oro awards for best production design, a Nastro d'Argento for The Man Who Will Come (2009), and multiple David di Donatello and Nastro d'Argento nominations.
