Biography
Gilbert de Goldschmidt (1925–2010) was a German-born French film producer. He founded the independent production company Madeleine Films in 1951 and went on to produce or co-produce more than forty films.
He is known for his work on Jacques Demy’s musicals The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (1964) and The Young Girls of Rochefort (1967), both co-produced with Mag Bodard. Other notable productions include Raoul Coutard’s Hoa Binh (1970), which received an Academy Award nomination, and several comedies directed by Yves Robert, such as The Tall Blond Man with One Black Shoe (1972).
De Goldschmidt served on the juries of the Cannes Film Festival in 1983 and the Venice Film Festival in 1988, and was twice president of UniFrance. He received the Légion d’honneur and other French honours.
