Biography
Gugu Mbatha-Raw is a British actress. She trained at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art after earlier work with the National Youth Music Theatre. She appeared on stage as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet and Octavia in Anthony and Cleopatra at the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester in 2005, and as Ophelia in Hamlet in the West End and on Broadway in 2009.
Her screen roles include Tish Jones in Doctor Who (2007), Kelly in the Black Mirror episode "San Junipero" (2016), and Judge Ravonna Renslayer in the Disney+ series Loki (2021–2023). She played the title role in the film Belle (2013) and appeared in Beauty and the Beast (2017), A Wrinkle in Time (2018) and The Morning Show (2019).
Mbatha-Raw was appointed Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) in 2017 for services to drama and became a global Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in 2021.
