Biography
Gus McNaughton (29 July 1881 – 18 November 1969) was an English actor. He appeared in more than 70 films between 1930 and 1947, frequently in supporting comic roles. He began performing on stage in 1899 as a juvenile comedian with the Fred Karno company.
McNaughton appeared in two films directed by Alfred Hitchcock: Murder! (1930), as Tom Trewitt (uncredited), and The 39 Steps (1935), as a salesman on the Flying Scotsman. He was also credited in several George Formby comedies of the 1930s and 1940s, including Keep Your Seats, Please (1936). He was sometimes billed as Augustus Le Clerq, Augustus Howard or Gus MacNaughton.
