Biography
Gustavo Alatriste Rodríguez (also credited as Gustavo Alatriste) was a Mexican film producer, director, writer and exhibitor. A former furniture businessman and public accountant, he entered the film industry by producing Luis Buñuel’s Viridiana (1961), which starred his then-wife Silvia Pinal and won the Palme d’Or at Cannes.
He went on to produce Buñuel’s The Exterminating Angel (1962) and Simon of the Desert (1965), forming a notable creative partnership with the director and Pinal. Alatriste also directed and wrote several later films, founded a chain of art-house cinemas in Mexico and served as vice-president of the national film industry chamber (CANACINE) in the 1980s.
