Biography
Hanns Zischler is a German actor born in Nuremberg. He began working in film in the late 1960s while studying philosophy, ethnology, music and German literature in Munich and Berlin, appearing in early films by Wim Wenders including Summer in the City (1970) and Kings of the Road (1976).
Zischler has appeared in more than 300 films and television productions. He is known for roles in Munich (2005) as Hans, The Edukators (2004), Amen. (2002), Ripley's Game (2002), Clouds of Sils Maria (2014) and Babylon Berlin (2017). In 2026 he played Thomas Mann in Fatherland.
Alongside acting he has worked as a dramaturg, director, translator of philosophical texts, author and photographer.
