Biography
Hans-Martin Stier is a German actor and singer. He was born on 29 September 1950 in Bad Ems, Germany. After serving in the merchant navy from the age of seventeen, he studied social pedagogy in Münster and became involved in the local student scene. In 1978 he became the frontman and singer of the band Törner Stier Crew.
Stier moved to Berlin and took private acting lessons. He appeared in stage productions at theatres including the Renaissance-Theater and Freie Volksbühne in Berlin and the Deutsches Schauspielhaus in Hamburg. His film career began in the mid-1980s, with an early role as the dying man in Wim Wenders’s Wings of Desire (1987). He has since worked extensively in German television, including recurring parts in series such as Tatort and Hausmeister Krause.
Notable screen credits include the Red Army General in Enemy at the Gates (2001), Kurseval in Tristan & Isolde (2006), Albert Grzesinski in Babylon Berlin (2017–2022) and Arnold Vogt in Alone in Berlin (2016).
