Biography
Harkness Smith (1910–1989) was an American cinematographer. He began his career in the camera department on feature films, serving as assistant camera on titles including The Big Trail (1930) and Mutiny on the Bounty (1935), and later worked as a camera operator on films such as Summer Stock (1950) and Johnny Eager (1941).
From the late 1950s he moved into director of photography roles on television. His credits include one episode of The Twilight Zone (1960), 123 episodes of Dr. Kildare (1961–1966), 53 episodes of The High Chaparral (1967–1971), 27 episodes of The Girl from U.N.C.L.E. (1966–1967), and 22 episodes of Lucas Tanner (1974–1975). He also worked on series such as Owen Marshall, Counselor at Law and Bonanza.
