Biography
Harry Brown was an American poet, novelist and screenwriter. Born in Portland, Maine, he attended Harvard University before working at Time magazine and The New Yorker. He served in the US Army during the Second World War, contributing to the magazine Yank.
Brown wrote numerous screenplays, including A Walk in the Sun (1945), Sands of Iwo Jima (1949), A Place in the Sun (1951) – for which he shared an Academy Award for Best Adapted Screenplay – and Ocean's Eleven (1960), co-written with Charles Lederer. Several of his novels were adapted for film, among them A Walk in the Sun and The Stars in Their Courses, the latter the basis for El Dorado (1966).
