Biography
Harry Cohn (1891–1958) was an American film producer and executive. He co-founded CBC Film Sales Corporation in 1919 with his brother Jack Cohn and Joe Brandt; the company was renamed Columbia Pictures Corporation in 1924. Cohn oversaw production in Hollywood and became president of the studio in 1932.
Under his leadership Columbia rose from a low-budget studio to a major Hollywood player. Cohn produced or served as executive producer on films including Platinum Blonde (1931), The Miracle Woman (1931), American Madness (1932), Twentieth Century (1934) and It Happened One Night (1934). The latter, directed by Frank Capra, won five Academy Awards and elevated the studio's standing.
