Biography
Helen Horton was an American actress. Born in Chicago, Illinois, she studied at Northwestern University, where she formed a lifelong friendship with Patricia Neal. After a brief period working in New York theatre in the mid-1940s, she moved to Britain following her marriage to Hamish Thomson and established a career in British television, radio and theatre.
Horton is known for her voice role as the ship's computer Mother in the 1979 science-fiction film Alien. Her other screen credits include Phase IV (1974), Never Take Sweets from a Stranger (1960), Endless Night (1972), Superman III (1983) and appearances in series such as Agatha Christie's Poirot and The Benny Hill Show. She died in 2007. Her granddaughter is the actress Lily James.
