Biography
Herbert Kenwith (14 July 1917 – 30 January 2008) was an American television director, producer and writer. Born in New Jersey, he began his career as an actor on Broadway, appearing in productions including I Remember Mama alongside Marlon Brando. He later worked as a theatre producer and director, notably as Broadway’s youngest producer of Me and Molly, and spent six years directing dozens of plays at Princeton University’s McCarter Theatre.
Kenwith moved into television in the 1950s, directing daytime soap operas such as the first episode of The Young and the Restless. He directed episodes of numerous series, including one episode of Star Trek in 1969, and worked extensively with Norman Lear on sitcoms such as Sanford and Son (1972), Good Times (1974), The Mary Tyler Moore Show (1970), Diff'rent Strokes (1978), One Day at a Time (1975) and Bosom Buddies (1980).
