Biography
Herman Hack was an American film and television actor. Born Herman H. Hackenjos on 15 June 1899 in Panola, Illinois, he appeared in hundreds of films, most often in uncredited bit parts as townsmen, barflies or train passengers, particularly in Westerns. His screen debut came in the 1925 silent film The Big Parade, and his final credit was in The Ride to Hangman's Tree (1967).
Hack featured in numerous Western television series including Gunsmoke, Bonanza, Wagon Train and Rawhide. Among his film roles were uncredited appearances as a courtroom spectator in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962), a townsman in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), and a train passenger in Man of the West (1958). He was married to actress Signe Hack and died of a heart attack on 19 October 1967 in Los Angeles, California.
