Biography
Hillary Brooke was an American actress. Born Beatrice Sofia Mathilda Peterson on 8 September 1914 in Astoria, New York, she worked as a model while attending Columbia University before moving into acting. She spent a year in England as a young woman, where she acquired an upper-class British accent that she used in many of her film roles.
Brooke appeared in more than 50 films, including Sherlock Holmes and the Voice of Terror (1942), Jane Eyre (1943), The Woman in Green (1945), Invaders from Mars (1953) and Alfred Hitchcock's The Man Who Knew Too Much (1956), in which she played Jan Peterson. She was a regular on the television series My Little Margie (1952–1955) and The Abbott and Costello Show (1952–1953). She retired from acting after her final film role in Spoilers of the Forest (1957).
In 1960 she married MGM executive Raymond A. Klune; she had previously been married to assistant director Jack Voglin. Brooke died on 25 May 1999 in Bonsall, California.
