Biography
Hirokata Takahashi (高橋 宏固) is a Japanese cinematographer specialising in animation. He has worked as director of photography on numerous films and television series since the 1970s, including The Castle of Cagliostro (1979) and Castle in the Sky (1986).
Takahashi founded Takahashi Productions, later known as T2 Studio, a company focused on animation photography. He collaborated frequently with director Osamu Dezaki and contributed to titles such as The Rose of Versailles (1979), Golgo 13: The Professional (1983), Space Adventure Cobra (1982) and Black Jack: The Movie (1996). He is noted for developing techniques such as incident lighting in cel animation.
In 2017 he received the Japan Agency for Cultural Affairs Film Award for Achievement, followed by the Tokyo Anime Award Festival Achievement Award in 2018. He later concentrated on company management and training successors.
