Biography

Hitoshi Takagi (高木均) was a Japanese actor and voice actor. Born in Tokyo on 26 February 1925, he died on 11 February 2004. He is best known for providing the voice of the title character in the Studio Ghibli film My Neighbor Totoro (1988).

Takagi appeared in numerous live-action films, including Throne of Blood (1957) and Tampopo (1985), in which he played the restaurant owner. His voice work included Moominpappa in the Moomin anime series, the narrator for Galaxy Express 999, and roles in Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water (1990) and Legend of the Galactic Heroes. He had a background in theatre before focusing on screen and voice roles.
