Biography
Horst Buchholz, also credited as Horst Werner Buchholz, was a German actor who appeared in more than sixty feature films between 1951 and 2002. Born in Berlin on 4 December 1933, he began his career on stage and in German cinema in the 1950s, gaining early success in films such as Himmel ohne Sterne (1955) and Die Halbstarken (1956).
He achieved international recognition for his role as Chico in The Magnificent Seven (1960) and as Otto Ludwig Piffl in Billy Wilder's One, Two, Three (1961). Later credits include Faraway, So Close! (1993) and his portrayal of Doctor Lessing in Roberto Benigni's Life Is Beautiful (1997). Buchholz was married to French actress Myriam Bru from 1958 until his death in Berlin on 3 March 2003; their son Christopher Buchholz is also an actor.
