Biography
Hsu Li-kong is a Taiwanese film producer. Born in Luoshan, Henan, China, in 1943, he graduated from Fu Jen Catholic University in Taipei and began his career in government before entering the film industry in the late 1970s as director of the Chinese Taipei Film Archive, where he helped establish the Taipei Golden Horse International Film Festival.
He later joined the Central Motion Picture Corporation as a producer and executive, supporting the early careers of directors including Ang Lee and Tsai Ming-liang. He produced Ang Lee’s first three features, Pushing Hands (1991), The Wedding Banquet (1993) and Eat Drink Man Woman (1994), as well as Tsai’s Vive L’Amour (1994) and The River (1997). In 1997 he founded Zoom Hunt International Production Co. Ltd.
Hsu co-produced Ang Lee’s Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (2000), which received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture and won the BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language. He received a Golden Horse Award for Vive L’Amour.
