Biography

Irma P. Hall is an American actress. Born in Beaumont, Texas, she attended Briar Cliff University and Texas College before teaching French, Spanish and English in Dallas public schools for nearly three decades.

She began acting in the early 1970s and is known for portraying matriarchal figures in films including Soul Food (1997), A Family Thing (1996) and The Ladykillers (2004), for which she received the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival. She appeared as Ida Durocher in Collateral (2004) and has worked in numerous other films and television series.
