Biography
James Graham Ballard (15 November 1930 – 19 April 2009) was an English novelist, short story writer and essayist. Born in the Shanghai International Settlement to British parents, he moved to England after the Second World War and began publishing fiction in the 1950s.
Ballard became associated with the New Wave of science fiction through post-apocalyptic novels such as The Wind from Nowhere (1961) and The Drowned World (1962). He is best known for the semi-autobiographical Empire of the Sun (1984), adapted into a 1987 film, and the controversial Crash (1973), filmed in 1996. He also supplied the original treatment for the 1970 Hammer film When Dinosaurs Ruled the Earth.
