Biography
Jack Watson was an English actor who appeared in British films and television from the 1950s onwards. Born in Thorney, Cambridgeshire, he was the son of music hall comedian Nosmo King and began his career appearing on stage with his father. During the Second World War he served as a physical training instructor in the Royal Navy.
After the war Watson worked as an impersonator on BBC radio programmes including Take It from Here and Hancock's Half Hour before moving into television. His television roles included Bill Gregory in Coronation Street (1961–1984) and Llud in Arthur of the Britons. His last major television role was as James Godbolt in the 1985 series Edge of Darkness.
Watson appeared in more than seventy films, among them Peeping Tom (1960), The Hill (1965), Grand Prix (1966), The Four Musketeers (1974) and The Wild Geese (1978). He was married to Betty Garland from 1943 until his death in Bath, Somerset, in 1999; they had three children.
