Biography
Jack Whittingham (2 August 1910 – 3 July 1972) was a British playwright and screenwriter. He was educated at Charterhouse and Lincoln College, Oxford, worked in journalism, and joined Alexander Korda as a contract screenwriter in 1937. During the Second World War he served with an artillery regiment in Iceland.
Whittingham wrote numerous screenplays for British studios, including Ealing, with credits on Q Planes (1939), Hunted (1952), The Divided Heart (1954) and The Birthday Present (1957), which he also produced. He collaborated with Ian Fleming and Kevin McClory on an early James Bond screenplay that became the basis for the novel Thunderball. The 1965 film Thunderball credits an original screenplay by Whittingham and an original story by McClory, Whittingham and Fleming; he received story credit on the 1983 film Never Say Never Again.
