Biography
James Doherty is an English actor. Born on 17 December 1966 in Guildford, Surrey, he was educated at Felsted School in Essex and was a member of the National Youth Theatre of Great Britain. He trained at the Guildford School of Acting, graduating in 1989.
Doherty has appeared in numerous television comedies, including roles in The Thick of It (2005), Veep (2012), Miranda (2009) and Trying (2020). His film credits include In the Loop (2009), Inbred (2011) and London Road (2015). He has also performed in West End productions such as Chicago (as Amos Hart, 2011) and Come From Away (from 2020).
More recent work includes the role of Cley in House of the Dragon (2022–2026) and Chief Inspector in Say Nothing (2024). He is married to television presenter Joanna Sinnott.
