Biography

James Dunn was an American actor. He worked on the stage and in vaudeville before appearing as an extra in silent films. In 1931 he was signed by Fox and made his screen debut as Eddie Collins in Bad Girl.

Dunn appeared opposite Shirley Temple in her first three features: Stand Up and Cheer! (1934), Baby Take a Bow (1934) and Bright Eyes (1934). In 1945 he won the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his role as Johnny Nolan in A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. He later appeared in television series including It's a Great Life (1954).

Dunn was born on 2 November 1901 in New York City and died on 1 September 1967 in Santa Monica, California.
