Biography
James Griffith (1916–1993) was an American character actor, musician and screenwriter. Born in Los Angeles, he attended UCLA and began his career in little theatre before serving in the United States Marine Corps during the Second World War. He made his film debut in Blonde Ice (1948) and went on to appear in supporting and bit roles, often uncredited, in dozens of Westerns and other films.
Among his notable film appearances were Mr Grimes in The Killing (1956), the District Attorney in The Night of the Hunter (1955), and an uncredited role in Spartacus (1960). He also made more than seventy television guest appearances, including episodes of Batman, Bonanza, Little House on the Prairie and Mission: Impossible. Griffith wrote screenplays for films including Lorna (1964), Shalako (1968) and Catlow (1971), as well as an episode of Mission: Impossible.
