Biography

James Kent is a British television and film director. He was born and grew up in Yorkshire and was educated at Bootham School and Oxford University. He began his career as a BBC local news journalist in Bristol before directing more than twenty documentaries for the BBC.

Kent's fiction directing credits include episodes of EastEnders (2000), The White Queen (2013), 11.22.63 (2016), the second season of The Capture (2022) and central episodes of Fellow Travelers (2023). His feature films are Testament of Youth (2014) and The Aftermath (2019). He has also directed Lost Boys and Fairies (2024) for the BBC.

His documentary work includes Holocaust: A Music Memorial Film from Auschwitz, for which he won BAFTA, Emmy and RTS awards. He was nominated for Breakthrough British Filmmaker at the 2014 London Film Critics Circle Awards.
