Biography
Jan Chapman is an Australian film producer. Born on 28 March 1950 in Newcastle, New South Wales, she studied English and Fine Arts at the University of Sydney and began working in independent short films through the Sydney Filmmakers Co-op before moving into television production at the Australian Broadcasting Corporation.
She produced Jane Campion’s The Piano (1993), for which she received an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture, as well as Holy Smoke (1999) and Bright Star (2009). Other credits include Love Serenade (1996), Lantana (2001), The Daughter (2015) and executive producing The Babadook (2014) and Babyteeth (2020).
Chapman was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2004 for services to the Australian film industry.
