Biography
Jane Withers was an American actress. She began her career as a child performer in the 1930s and appeared in numerous films for 20th Century Fox.
Withers played Vashti Snythe in the 1956 film Giant. Earlier she had gained attention for her role opposite Shirley Temple in Bright Eyes (1934). As an adult she was known for portraying Josephine the Plumber in a long-running series of television commercials for Comet cleanser. She also provided voice work as the gargoyle Laverne in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) and its sequel (2002), and made guest appearances in series including Murder, She Wrote and The Love Boat.
Withers was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on 12 April 1926 and died in Burbank, California, on 7 August 2021.
