Biography
Janet Shaw (born Ellen Martha Clancy) was an American actress. She began her career in the mid-1930s under her birth name, signing with Warner Bros. and appearing in films including Jezebel (1938) and The Old Maid (1939). She later worked under the name Janet Shaw as a freelance supporting player, with credits in Waterloo Bridge (1940), Night Monster (1942) and It Happened Tomorrow (1944).
She is best known for her role as Louise Finch in Alfred Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt (1943). Shaw appeared in approximately 60 films, many of them uncredited, before retiring from the screen in 1950. She made one television appearance in 1955.
