Biography

Jason Grote is an American playwright and screenwriter. He was born in 1971 in Lakewood Township, New Jersey, and holds an MFA in Dramatic Writing from New York University. He is an alumnus of New Dramatists and was the 2006 P73 Playwriting Fellow.

Grote wrote several plays in the 2000s, including 1001, Maria/Stuart and Civilization (all you can eat). In the 2010s he worked in television, with writing credits on Smash (2012), Mad Men (2013), Hannibal (2014), The Lizzie Borden Chronicles (2015), Rogue (2015–2016, also story editor) and Knightfall (2017–2018, also co-producer). He has also written for the BioShock video game series.

Grote received a Writers Guild of America Award nomination for his work on Mad Men.
