Biography
Jean-Yves Escoffier (12 July 1950 – 1 April 2003) was a French cinematographer. He trained at the École Louis Lumière in Paris and began his career in France as a camera assistant and operator before becoming director of photography.
He collaborated frequently with director Leos Carax on films including Boy Meets Girl (1984), Mauvais sang (1986) and Les Amants du Pont-Neuf (1991). Escoffier later worked on American productions such as The Crow: City of Angels (1996), Good Will Hunting (1997), Rounders (1998), Gummo (1997), Nurse Betty (2000) and The Human Stain (2003). He received the European Film Award for Best Cinematographer for Les Amants du Pont-Neuf.
Escoffier died of a heart attack at his home in Los Angeles on 1 April 2003, during post-production on The Human Stain, which was dedicated to his memory.
