Biography
Jeanne Balibar is a French actress and singer. Born in Paris on 13 April 1968, she is the daughter of philosopher Étienne Balibar and physicist Françoise Balibar.
She trained at the Cours Florent and the Conservatoire National Supérieur d'Art Dramatique. Balibar began her career on stage, appearing as Elvire in Molière's Don Juan at the Festival d'Avignon. Her first film role was in Arnaud Desplechin's The Sentinel (1992). She has worked extensively in theatre and cinema, including with directors such as Desplechin, Olivier Assayas and Mathieu Amalric.
Balibar is known for roles in Cold War (2018) as Juliette, Barbara (2017) as Brigitte/Barbara, Les Misérables (2019) as the Commissioner, Lost Illusions (2021) as the Marquise d'Espard and Memoria (2021) as Agnes Cerkinsky. She won the César Award for Best Actress for Barbara and has also directed films.
