Biography
Jeanne Moreau was a French actress who appeared in films from the late 1940s until the 2010s. She trained at the Conservatoire National d’Art Dramatique and joined the Comédie-Française at the age of 20.
She achieved prominence with her roles in Louis Malle’s Elevator to the Gallows (1958) and The Lovers (1958), followed by La Notte (1961) and Jules and Jim (1962). Later credits include Nikita (1990) as Armande. She also directed films, beginning with Lumière (1976).
Moreau received a César Award for Best Actress, a BAFTA Award for Best Foreign Actress and a Cannes Film Festival Best Actress Award, as well as several lifetime achievement awards.
