Biography
Jeffrey W. Byrd is an American film and television director, producer and screenwriter. A native of Brooklyn, New York, he began his career as a protégé of Spike Lee, working on films including Mo' Better Blues (1990), Jungle Fever (1991) and Malcolm X (1992). He later directed more than one hundred music videos and numerous television commercials.
Byrd's feature credits include Seventeen Again (2000), Book of Love: The Definitive Reason Why Men Are Dogs (2002), King's Ransom (2005) and A Beautiful Soul (2012). In television he has directed episodes of series including Soul Food, Switched at Birth, The Originals, Marvel's Runaways, Dynasty, Charmed, Black Lightning, The Flash, Star Trek: Discovery and Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. He has also served as a director and executive producer on Yellowjackets (2021–).
Byrd is co-chair of the Directors Guild of America's African American Steering Committee.
