Biography
Jermaine Canute Edwards, also credited as Jermaine Edwards, is a British cinematographer. Born in Jamaica and raised in Nottingham, he trained at the National Film and Television School, graduating from its Cinematography MFA programme. He began working in the camera department in the late 2000s.
Edwards accumulated credits as a camera trainee and second assistant camera on films including Bronson (2008), Pride (2014) and '71 (2014). He later worked as a “B” camera operator on The People We Hate at the Wedding (2022) and Matilda the Musical (2022), as well as on television series.
My Father's Shadow (2025), directed by Akinola Davies Jr., marked his debut as a feature-film director of photography. Shot on 16 mm in Lagos, the film received a Caméra d’Or Special Mention at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. He also served as cinematographer on the feature Ish (2025).
