Biography
Jerry Orbach was an American actor and singer. He was born on 20 October 1935 in New York City and died on 28 December 2004.
Orbach began his career on the stage, originating the role of El Gallo in the Off-Broadway musical The Fantasticks and winning a Tony Award for his performance as Chuck Baxter in the original Broadway production of Promises, Promises (1968). He later appeared in Chicago and 42nd Street.
He became widely known for his film roles, including Jake Houseman in Dirty Dancing (1987) and the voice of Lumiere in Beauty and the Beast (1991), and for playing Detective Lennie Briscoe in the television series Law & Order from 1992 to 2004.
