Biography
Jerry Verno (26 July 1895 – 29 June 1975) was a British actor. He began his career as a boy vocalist in music hall and variety, served in the First World War, and made his London stage debut in 1925. He appeared in films from 1931, often in small character roles.
Verno worked with Michael Powell on several early films and appeared in two Alfred Hitchcock productions: as one of the salesmen on the Flying Scotsman in The 39 Steps (1935) and as the lorry driver in Young and Innocent (1937). His other notable credits include The Red Shoes (1948), The Belles of St Trinian's (1954) and The Plague of the Zombies (1966). He continued working in theatre, pantomime and television into later life.
