Biography
Jim Johnston (8 September 1936 – 15 November 2023) was an American television director. A graduate of Northwestern University, he worked in advertising in Chicago, Los Angeles and New York before directing commercials. In 1977 he founded Johnston Films, a commercial production company, and later moved into directing television series.
He directed four episodes of Miami Vice (1985–1988) and twelve episodes of Babylon 5 (1994–1996). Other credits include nine episodes (and one as writer) of Tour of Duty (1987–1990), four episodes of JAG (1995–1996), four of Sliders (1996–1997) and one of Diagnosis: Murder (1999). He was a member of the Directors Guild of America.
