Biography
Joachim von Mengershausen was a German film producer, dramaturg and editor. Born in Bamberg in 1936, he studied at the Deutsches Institut für Film und Fernsehen in Munich and worked initially as a unit manager, editor and director before becoming a film critic. From 1970 he served as an editor and dramaturg at Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), overseeing more than 120 television and co-productions.
He produced or contributed to several films by Wim Wenders, including Alice in den Städten (1974), The American Friend (1977) and Wings of Desire (1987, as associate producer), and worked with Edgar Reitz on Heimat (1984) and its sequel. In later years he founded the production company FilmForm with his wife Petra Seeger and supported emerging and African filmmakers. He received the Ehrenpreis der deutschen Filmkritik for his life's work in 2016 and died in Cologne in 2020.
