Biography
Joanna Bacon was an English actor. Born in London on 7 June 1953, she trained initially as a ballet dancer before studying drama at the Actors Institute in London and with Uta Hagen at the HB Studio in New York. She made her stage debut in 1978 as an original member of the Harlow Theatre Company and later appeared with companies including the Sheffield Crucible, the National Theatre and the RSC.
On screen from the early 1990s, Bacon had recurring and guest roles in British television including A Touch of Frost (1992), Little Britain (2003–2005), The Bill and Holby City. She played Janet in the BBC Three series Him & Her (2010–2013) and Jackie across all four seasons of Breeders (2020–2023). Film roles included Natalie's Mum in Love Actually (2003), parts in RocknRolla (2008) and Easy Virtue (2008), Emily Norcross in A Quiet Passion (2016) and Lady Sybil Colefax in Benediction (2021). She also appeared in Horrible Histories: The Movie – Rotten Romans (2019), She Will (2022) and Moonflower Murders (2024). Bacon died on 14 June 2025.
