Biography
Joanna Bruzdowicz (17 May 1943 – 3 November 2021) was a Polish composer of film, television, opera, symphonic and chamber music. Born in Warsaw, she studied composition and piano at the State Higher School of Music, graduating with an M.A. in 1966, and continued her training in Paris with Nadia Boulanger, Olivier Messiaen and Pierre Schaeffer.
She had a long creative partnership with French director Agnès Varda, composing the music for Vagabond (1985), Kung-Fu Master! (1988), Jane B. by Agnès V. (1988), Jacquot (1991), The Gleaners and I (2000) and The Beaches of Agnès (2008). Her other film credits include The White King (2016). She also wrote scores for German television and several operas.
