Biography
Joelle Mae David is a British director, producer and writer. Born in east London to Caribbean parents, she studied English Literature and Film at Southampton University. She began her career in television as a production assistant before directing her own documentaries for BBC Three, including the short series Hidden Talent and the 2019 poetic documentary Losing My Home in the Name of Regeneration.
David founded production company Bluebird Pictures in 2017. Her narrative short film Greasy Spoon (2020) premiered at several festivals. She has since directed episodes of the BBC Three comedy series Dreaming Whilst Black (2023) and served as lead director on the Channel 4 adaptation Queenie (2024). She has also directed on Boarders and the second series of Criminal Record (2026).
David is represented by Independent Talent and continues to develop projects through Bluebird Pictures.
