Biography

Johannes Schmölling is a German musician, keyboardist and composer. He joined the electronic music group Tangerine Dream in 1979 and remained a member until 1985, contributing to several of the band's film scores during this period.

Born in Lohne, Germany, Schmölling trained as a classical musician, studying piano from the age of eight and later the pipe organ. He graduated with a degree in sound engineering in 1978 and worked in theatre sound at the Schaubühne am Halleschen Ufer in Berlin before joining Tangerine Dream. His film credits as a member of the group include Thief (1981), Risky Business (1983), The Keep (1983), Firestarter (1984) and Legend (1985). After leaving the band he pursued a solo career, releasing albums and composing for German television.
