Biography
John Altman (born 5 December 1949) is an English film composer, arranger, orchestrator and conductor. He was introduced to 1930s and 1940s music by his uncles, bandleaders Woolf and Sid Phillips, and attended the University of Sussex.
Altman has composed scores for numerous films and television productions. His credits include Hear My Song (1991), Funny Bones (1995), Beautiful Thing (1996), Little Voice (1998), RKO 281 (1999), Shall We Dance? (2004) and the tank chase sequence in GoldenEye (1995); he also arranged and produced the period music for Titanic (1997). He won a BAFTA Anthony Asquith Award for Hear My Song, an Emmy for RKO 281, and received the Gold Badge of Excellence from the British Academy of Composers and Songwriters in 2006. His autobiography Hidden Man: My Many Musical Lives was published in 2022.
