Biography
John Aoshima is an American animation director. He earned a BFA in Character Animation from CalArts and began his career in roles including character layout on series such as Futurama, The Simpsons and Avatar: The Last Airbender.
He has directed episodes of American Dad! (2005–2012), Gravity Falls (2012) and DuckTales (2017–2018). He served as head of story on the feature Kubo and the Two Strings (2016) and was sequence director on the limited series Maya and the Three (2021).
Aoshima co-directed the feature Ultraman: Rising (2024). He has signed an overall deal with Warner Bros. Pictures Animation and is attached to direct a Hello Kitty feature scheduled for 2028. He has received Emmy and Annie Award nominations.
