Biography
John Gilbert is a New Zealand film editor. He began his career at the National Film Unit and later worked as an assistant editor and editor at Television New Zealand, also freelancing as a sound editor.
His first feature credit was Crush (1992). He edited The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring (2001), for which he received a Satellite Award for Best Editing and nominations for an Academy Award, BAFTA Award and ACE Eddie Award. For Hacksaw Ridge (2016) he won the Academy Award for Best Film Editing and the BAFTA Award for Best Editing. Other credits include Via Satellite (1998), The World's Fastest Indian (2005), Bridge to Terabithia (2007), The Bank Job (2008) and Damsel (2024).
Gilbert is a member of the American Cinema Editors.
