Biography

John Hallam (28 October 1941 – 14 November 2006) was a Northern Irish character actor. He trained at RADA and began his career in the mid-1960s, appearing in stage, film and television roles until 2003.

He is known for film parts including McTaggart in the director’s cut of The Wicker Man (1973), Luro in Flash Gordon (1980), Tyrian in Dragonslayer (1981), Lamson in Lifeforce (1985) and a Red-Headed Baron in Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves (1991). Television credits include Light in the Doctor Who serial Ghost Light (1989), Sir Wilfred Death in Blackadder (1983), and Thomas Mallen in The Mallens (1979). He also appeared as Brian Hart in Public Eye (1975).

Hallam was a cousin of actor Clive Mantle. He was married to Vicky Brinkworth from 1966 until their divorce in 1992; they had four children.
