Biography
John Harkins was an American stage, film and television actor. Born in St Louis, Missouri, he studied at the University of Iowa and began his professional career on Broadway in the mid-1950s. He was a life member of the Actors Studio and appeared in productions including Mother Courage and Her Children, The Three Sisters and West Side Story.
Harkins made his screen debut in the 1966 film The Three Sisters. His film roles include Being There (1979), Absence of Malice (1981) as Davidek, Amityville 3-D (1983) and Birdy (1984). On television he had recurring roles in Dark Shadows and Cagney & Lacey, and guest appearances in series such as The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Dallas, The Golden Girls and Murder, She Wrote. He died in 1999.
