Biography
John Jympson (1930–2003) was a British film editor. Born in London, he attended Dulwich College and entered the industry as a runner at Ealing Studios in 1947. His father, film critic Jympson Harman, helped secure the position. He worked as an assistant editor before becoming a credited editor in the early 1960s.
Jympson edited films including Zulu (1964), A Hard Day's Night (1964), Frenzy (1972), Where Eagles Dare (1968), Little Shop of Horrors (1986) and A Fish Called Wanda (1988), the last earning him a BAFTA nomination for Best Editing. He was the original editor on Star Wars (1977) before being replaced. His final credit was Mad Cows (1999). He married Maureen Hemsworth, who worked in costumes at Ealing Studios, in 1954.
